Nothing directly to do with BarCampKC but kind of neat — OldTimeRadioFans.com archives some CBS Radio Mystery Theater shows from 1974. Cool thing is the first three feature a newscast from WDAF when the station was “affiliated with all four major networks of the time: NBC, CBS, ABC, and DuMont”.
I fired up audacity and spliced out the newscast from the first featured episode, here’s a quick list of highlights:
- 0:26 VP Gerald Ford requests reducing size of Watergate committee’s request for Whitehouse documents
- 1:16 commercial for freedom house books u.s.a …the russians send 1000s of
publications! - 2:12 Arab oil producers end your price increases!
- 2:56 Heavy rains and mudslides in L.A. area
- 3:14 “Tower power” windmills on rooftops to help abate energy crisis
- 3:47 11 people killed in Johnstown, PA commuter airplane crash
- 4:10 Tex Ritter buried — died Wednesday
- 4:19 Kansas City-Omaha Kings, something about a new sports complex…
- 4:20 hockey news re: Atlanta Flames
- 4:57 SW Missouri basketball tournament
- 5:20 Pennant-waving fans for Miami Dolphins (vs. Minnesota)
- 5:53 Kansas City forecast
- 6:10 WDAF letters/ news sign-off
To date myself I was about 2 1/2 years old when it aired and think we were living in Winter Park, CO at the time…

Great post — CBSRMT is an all time radio drama of mine. You may also want to checkout the old time radio website, http://www.otrcat.com/ which is my favorite website (and incidentally the website is local to Kansas City). They have free new full episodes to listen to everyday – might be worth a look!
